Pay Per Click Vs. Pay Per Lead

Marketing to drive traffic to your website and ultimately gain new business can be a costly and involved process. Pay per click and pay per lead are becoming the leading marketing tools available on the Internet. In order to figure out how to spend your marketing dollars, take some time to understand the difference between the two more popular ways to draw traffic and gain new customers.

How Pay Per Click Works for You

Pay per click advertising can be difficult to understand if you don’t already have a basic understanding of keyword usage, how it relates to search engine results and website traffic. Ultimately you want the most popular keywords or phrases in your pay per click ad link so you must go through a bidding process in order to reach the top of the search engines and make your ad link seen. The bidding process can become very expensive depending on your keywords and the competition.

Once you’ve won the bidding, you will pay for only the ad links when potential customers click them. The links will take them back to whichever landing page you designate on your website where customers can learn more about your services.

The Pay Per Lead Experience

Unlike pay per click, using a pay per lead program usually involves a third party marketing company from which you purchase leads. Should you decide to work with a third party marketing company, the company searches out the best leads for you and you pay a price for each lead.

Sometimes it is possible to purchase a bulk of leads. The lead generation company tailors leads to your specifications, often sorting leads by region, age, gender and lead type. Lead generation cuts out the hassle of finding leads by doing the work for you.

You can also purchase leads through affiliates. By using affiliates as a pay per lead source potential clients click on banner ads, text links or other types of advertising on a site. From there, an application pops up asking the potential clients to fill out for more information. You then pay for each lead delivered to you from the affiliate site.

Pay Per Click Vs. Pay Per Lead

One of the biggest differences between a pay per click program and the pay per lead advertising is that there is more fraud associated with the pay per click program. It is often hard to catch the fraudulent activity as many use automated software to click on ad links and IP addresses go unlogged.

With the pay per lead program, fraud isn’t as high as is false leads. Most often, these false leads are caught before they even reach your office. However, in the case that you do receive one, it can be easier to get your money back than a pay per click program and fraudulent ad clicks.

Both programs are extremely popular for bringing traffic and interest to your website and business. It is also possible to invest quite a bit of money on the programs. Which program is right for you will depend on the number of leads you need to acquire and the amount of money you can spend on the programs.
