Compare Top Lead Management Systems

Lead management systems (LMS) are actually a branch off of the content management systems (CMS) tree. Where a CMS seeks to manage and organize all your content, an LMS seeks only to manage leads. An LMS allows the user to optimize their lead information and use it more effectively than if they simply allowed it to reside in the CMS profile. The reason for this is that LMSes are only concerned with one type of information and thus are able to be customized by the user to a greater specification leading to a more accurate lead database. While LMSes have been around for quite a while, more and more businesses are turning to these programs, which, as expected, has led to an increase of LMS programs being offered. While an exhaustive listing and comparison of all LMS programs available could be done, there is little need as a few simple questions can provide the answer to which LMS your business should use.

The Basics of Lead Management Systems

Most LMS programs share many of the same basic functions such as storing leads, classifying leads and providing the chosen types of leads on demand. They generally perform these tasks with minimal effort on the part of the user, and can meet the minimal needs of almost any sales team. While this means that any LMS can be useful in your business, what it does not mean is that all LMS programs will provide you with the right specialization of lead management you may either desire or require. In order to assure that you are maximizing your LMS program, you need to ask several questions about the potential LMS you are looking at.

Does the LMS Give a Specific Picture of Target Markets?

All LMS programs provide the ability to generate a customer profile. However, where LMS programs begin to differ is the ability to specify and easily change specific lead information. If you run a business that sells a product or service that appeals to a wide range of demographics, then an LMS that allows extremely specific and flexible profiles is not really necessary. However, if you are in a business with a very specific or mutable customer base, then an LMS program that provides detailed demographic information, and can easily be updated is a strong need for your sales team.

How Well Does the LMS Track Leads and Results?

Every business knows that tracking the result of leads is extremely important. However, the degree to which each company wants to track this information can vary widely. Again, most LMS programs allow some degree of tracking leads, where they differ is in how specific the information on each lead can be. If you run a business that goes through many leads a day with little to no follow up, the you will not require an overly specific lead tracking ability. On the flip side, if you are part of a sales team that spends a great deal of time in following up and encouraging a sale, then an LMS that allows for greater specification is a necessity.

Is the LMS User Friendly?

While all programs endeavor to provide intuitive and simple to use interface not all LMSes provide the same degree of user compatibility. Does almost everyone in your business access the LMS daily? If so, then an LMS with an easy to learn and intuitive interface is extremely important. However if you run a business where only one or a few individuals actually ever use the LMS program, then one that requires a greater deal of training and user knowledge will be fine.

While these may seem to be basic questions, there is no denying their importance in the decision making process of which lead management system you should pick for your business.
