he great thing about selling auto insurance is that buying auto insurance is compulsory. While some might put off purchasing other types of insurance, the same cannot be said for car insurance. So how can you effectively reach this huge demographic? In effect, it's everyone who drives a car, a virtual goldmine.

There are many theories about how best to bring in auto insurance leads. Advertising is seen as the number one way to bring in potential customers. However, name recognition and lead generation are hardly the same thing. Of course, name recognition helps, but if you are not generating any information about those potential customers coming to your site via advertising, then you will not have an effective sales strategy.

There are a myriad of ways to advertise a site, especially online. Print and web ads can bring in traffic, but not necessarily generate any leads. Posting white papers on your site about a relevant topic, and then requiring registration to read the whole article, is one source of lead generation, but it hardly amounts to a comprehensive lead generation strategy. Offering discounts to new customers or to older customers who refer new customers is also a good system, but both of these require high name recognition and high traffic.

What it comes down to is this: You shouldn't choose between auto insurance lead generation strategies, you should utilize them all. Even if your car insurance company is highly successful, the point of business is to exceed your expectations. Traffic and registration can always be better, as can the conversion rate on registration to sale. In addition, you should always bee looking for new advertising avenues, such as targeted advertising on niche directories. When you combine outside lead generation with in-house options, you'll have a well-rounded plan that can increase profits considerably.
